Eleven things you need to know about these Sorel 1964 Premium T Canvas Boots1) This is a harsh weather boot. It's treated canvas and rubber, and it's waterproof. It's felt lined and it's very warm, even in very cold conditions. This is a boot suitable for use in places like Minnesota, Canada, and upstate New York...that is, places where you get a lot of snow, and where you need a boot that won't leak and will keep your feet warm. You can, of course, wear these in places it doesn't snow--the boot won't complain. But you may find that these boots are too warm to use as kicks on the streets of San Diego or Florida, even during a torrential downpour.2) This boot isn't very stylish. Well, perhaps, it's stylish in an old jeans, flannel shirt, arctic cap and my boots sort of way. But you will want to change these out if you wear them to a formal office. You wouldn't want to wear these on a nice date. Etc. They are what they are: Function over style. And that's kind of chic in and of itself. But it's not chic in a "ooh...nice looking boots" way.3) This model boot has been made for nearly half a century. So they are classic in a sense.4) These boots were once made in Canada. Not any longer. Bowing to financial realities (like almost every mass market shoe maker), Sorel now has these made in China. The quality is still good, however.5) Everyone who lives in a place where you get appreciable snow should own a pair of these. Your stylish boots are for when the snow has cleared and the skies are bright. These are the work boots when you need to clear the snow, or walk a mile to somewhere in bad weather. Think of these as the boots that save your stylish boots.6) These run slightly long and wide (probably the equivalent of a EE or even EEEE for most shoes). They are intentionally sized this way to accommodate a thick sock. They are not svelte looking--think fashionable duck feet.7) The lower part of these shoes is fairly stiff and heavy rubber--and will remain that way. These will never be the most comfortable shoes you own for simple walking.8) This same design is available with a leather (rather than treated canvas) upper, here My rating is a bit preemptive at this time, as I have yet to wear this boots in the elements. Still, my initial impressions are positive. I was worried that a mens 9 would be too small, as it is a winter style boot with padding. I wear a mens 9 in most shoes, and usually a 10 in winter boots. So far, with one pair of winter socks, these feel snug in all the right places yet still allow wiggle room for the toes. And in addition, the boot seems to have been made rather well. I do hope that they hold up.It might be a while until I'm able to give them their proper due, as it's near 80 degrees outside. But, again, I'm impressed so far, and am anxious to try them out in the sloppy, bitter cold. Time will tell. For those wondering about size -- I'm a mens 9 and ordered a 9 on here. It fits quite well with one pair of winter socks on. Also, keep in mind that they'll wear in and that the laces allow for breathing room.UPDATEWell, it's a double edged sword having such weather and waterproof boots: on one side, you're getting the benefit of keeping moisture out and on the other, they're so solidly good at keeping moisture out, that your body's sweat has nowhere to go. I tested these out in upper 20s and 30s, and they work really well. and I have yet to have a puddle or spilled water seep into the shoe; however, as I use these as work boots, my feet sweat. After several hours of being outside, it becomes noticeable. I will definitely not say that this is a complaint nor does it detract from the boot. I can definitely say that these are some of the better winter boots I have. Even with sweat in the boot, they're still keeping my feet relatively warm. In addition, I DID order another pair of these in a half size smaller in hopes that they will fit a bit more snug and thus I'll have less of an air pocket in the toe area.I definitely recommend for active people that will be in and around the 30s and 40s.I picked these up in the midst of winter due to the overwhelming amount of rain, sleet, and snow that my area had been getting. I usually walk to/from where I need to go and so sneakers were NOT cutting it. I picked up these boots after noticing that almost everybody has a pair... They are PERFECT for that nasty winter weather where you need to sludge through snow, ice, and melting slush of unknown depth. My feet never got wet once which is a giant win. They are VERY WARM. This can be a pro or con depending on what your use for them is. I wore them in to school one day and after an hour my feet were burning up. Not a big deal though because I would rather have them keep my feet warm outside and bring a spare pair of shoes for indoors.Would definitely recommend them to deal with nasty winter weather. Also, a note on size: I typically wear a 9.5 and ordered a 9. The boots still feel a touch large (maybe it's just their general large size) but I don't think I'd go with a smaller size... Also, I got a lot of compliments on them. I typically just tucked my jeans into them.I am a butcher and have been looking for a waterproof work boot for a while now. Meat and blood falls on the toe portion of my shoes and I need to be able to rinse them off with a power washer without getting my foot wet. I have been wearing them 6 days a week for 8 hour days for maybe 3-4 months now and have not had any problems they appear to be very well made. My only complaint or suggestion would be that the tongue portion be made out of rubber instead of leather and that the sole of the shoe be oil and slip proof like shoes for crews or a work boot. If someone would make a butchers boot like this but with those changes it would be great its a niche market though. If your getting these for the snow they will work well and hold up for more than one season. Do be careful though they can be slippery.Really great boots. Whilst they are quite expensive, when you buy Sorel you get what you pay for and these are top quality.I used these on a recent trip to the mountains where the temps where -7 and they kept my feet exceptionally warm and dry.The only thing to note is that if you wear them in warmer temps the fact that they are so well insulated means that your feet do sweat.....but that is a minor consideration.Overall excellent boots.Great boots wore then every day in SalemThey are definitely waterproof. They are warm. The soles are thin and there is not a great deal of cushioning other than the felt liner.Perfect, exactly what I wanted, I highly recommend these as they keep your feet warm and dry.Extremely warm completely water proof very happy
